§ 22-222. Vehicle for hire requirements.

  • (a)

    Applicability. It shall be unlawful to operate a vehicle for hire upon the streets of the city without the possession of each of the following:

    (1)

    A valid and current vehicle for hire business permit issued by Palm Beach County;

    (2)

    A valid and current vehicle for hire decal issued by Palm Beach County;

    (3)

    A valid and current vehicle for hire driver's identification badge issued by Palm Beach County;

    (4)

    A vehicle for hire decal issued by the city pursuant to section 22-223 of this Code;

    (5)

    A copy of the city business tax receipt for the owner or vehicle for hire company for which the driver is working;

    (6)

    A certificate of insurance showing the vehicle driven is covered by commercial automobile insurance as required by its vehicle for hire business permit.

    (b)

    Exemptions. This article shall not apply to the following:

    (1)

    Vehicles operated by a governmental agency;

    (2)

    Vehicles tendering transportation services not for compensation;

    (3)

    Vehicles owned and operated by hotels, motels, funeral homes, vehicle service providers or automobile dealerships which provide transportation services for their patrons and/or guests only and for which the patron or guest does not incur a separate charge;

    (4)

    Operation of motor vehicles for the transportation of passengers, not for compensation, between the vicinity of their residences and the vicinity of their places of work, in an arrangement commonly known as a car pool or van pool; and

    (5)

    Non-medical, wheelchair and stretcher transportation service operating in connection with Palm-Tran Connection.

    (6)

    Animal drawn vehicle for hire vehicle for special events, such as a parade, wedding or funeral, provided that during the special event rides in the vehicle are not being offered to the general public.

    (c)

    Fees. All fees required by this article shall be established by resolution of the city commission.
