§ 62-62. Military leave.

  • (a)

    Procedure for supplementing mandatory leave of absence for training provisions of F.S. § 115.07. All officials and employees of the city who are seeking approval for military training leave pursuant to F.S. § 115.07 shall provide their department director with a copy of the annual training calendar in October of each year and official military documentation for each training session.

    (b)

    Leave and supplemental pay for active service. The city hereby exercises its discretion to implement all of the leave and supplemental pay provisions of F.S. §§ 115.07 and 115.14 and all benefits contained therein are hereby extended to all officials and employees of the city who are reservists called to "active military service," as defined in F.S. § 115.08 occurring after September 11, 2001. Such leave and supplemental pay shall continue through September 1, 2016, unless further extended by the city commission. In addition, all such officials and employees shall be granted all health insurance and all other benefits in effect during their military leave. Projected overtime earnings are not included. Insurance benefit coverage will continue in accordance with the premium payment arrangements provided for in applicable collective bargaining agreements. Officials and employees are not obligated to make contributions to any retirement fund while in a non-pay status. All officials and employees of the city who are seeking to receive the leave and pay provisions of this subsection shall provide their department directors with a copy of the order to report to duty, if available and not precluded by military necessity, and a current copy of the employee's "Military Leave and Earnings Statement" with a copy of each provided to the human resources department. The mayor shall report to the city commission at least 30 days prior to September 1, 2016 as to the employees of the city who are reservists then in active military service under this subsection.
