§ 90-74. Curtailment of usage; authorization of the public utilities director.

  • At such times as either the South Florida Water Management District or public utilities director declares an emergency situation regarding the fresh water supply system of the city, the public utilities director is authorized to order curtailment of the use of water for certain nonessential purposes including but not limited to the following:

    (1)

    The sprinkling, watering or irrigating of shrubbery, trees, lawns, grass, ground covers, plants, vines, gardens, vegetables. The director of utilities is authorized to specify certain days and hours when lawns and shrubbery may be watered.

    (2)

    The washing of vehicles, trailers, or boats, except bona fide business enterprises where vehicle washing is done which recycle water.

    (3)

    The washing of building exteriors and paved areas such as sidewalks and driveways, excepting therefrom filling station aprons.

    (4)

    The washing of any business or industrial equipment and machinery.

    (5)

    The operation of any ornamental fountain or other structure using water.

    (6)

    The filling of swimming and wading pools except for small amounts of make-up water for units with recirculating systems.

    (7)

    The escape of water through defective plumbing, which shall mean knowingly permitting defective plumbing to remain out of repair.

    (8)

    Businesses and industries shall be restricted in the amount of water which they shall use as ordered by the director of utilities.
