§ 46-73. Purpose.

  • The criminal justice advisory committee shall render periodic advice to the city commission regarding crime prevention and reduction, law enforcement deployment and techniques, and community education in criminal justice matters. Appropriate activities of the criminal justice advisory committee shall include but not be limited to:

    (1)

    Reviewing, researching and assessing the criminal justice system and crime prevention effort within the county and the effect thereof on the city;

    (2)

    Recommending to the city commission legislation, policies and programs concerning crime, law enforcement and other criminal justice matters;

    (3)

    Analyzing the issue of "black on black" crime;

    (4)

    Assessing the impact of drug abuse and drug related crime within the city and developing remedial city action;

    (5)

    Recommending to the city commission cost effective and efficient city resource utilization to prevent and detect crime;

    (6)

    Inviting citizen input at committee meetings on crime related issues; and

    (7)

    Stimulating community interest and involvement in the criminal justice system by city residents.
