§ 2-287. Head of department; functions and powers; divisions.

  • (a)

    The head of the development services department shall be known as the development services director/building official.

    (b)

    The development services director shall supervise the activities and performance of the various divisions within the department and shall serve as technical adviser on city regulations relating to development, business regulation, construction and existing buildings to the mayor, city commission, and other city agencies.

    (c)

    The development services department's functions shall include the following:

    (1)

    To plan for sound development and oversee construction of all new development within the city;

    (2)

    To maintain and improve existing city codes and land development regulations related to all proposed construction and development;

    (3)

    To interpret and enforce city and state construction and land development regulations;

    (4)

    To advise and assist customers in understanding and complying with existing city codes, standards, regulations and policies;

    (5)

    To preserve and maintain life and property safety, and to preserve the quality of life through the diligent enforcement of existing city, state, and federal regulations on existing properties; and

    (6)

    To update, maintain, and enforce city regulations governing the issuance of certificates of use, rental receipts, and business tax receipts.

    (c)

    The development services department shall include the following divisions:

    (1)

    Building division;

    (2)

    Code compliance division; and

    (3)

    Planning division.
